Getting ready to vote
If you are registered to vote you will receive a poll card in the post.
The poll card will explain where your polling station (where you can vote in person) is and on what day the election is.
You will only be able to vote at the polling station named on the card.
You can also find your polling station by using the polling station finder.
You do not need to take your poll card with you to vote.
You do not need to provide photo ID when voting at the Senedd election.
At the polling station
Polling stations are open between 7am and 10pm on the day of the election, 7 May 2026.
When you arrive, staff will ask you for your name and address. This is to confirm you are on the electoral register (registered to vote). They will give you a ballot (voting) paper. This paper will show the political parties and independent candidates you can vote for in the constituency.
Each polling station will have a booth where you can vote in private. There will be instructions in the booth and on top of the ballot paper on how to vote.
The voting booth will also have a pencil or pen that you can use to vote.
You'll vote once for the political party or independent candidate you choose. You can do this by marking (X) next to the party or independent candidate you wish to vote for.
Once you've voted, fold your ballot paper in half and put it in the ballot box.
